What I love most about corsets is that you can pair it up with almost anything.¬† You can use it to dress up a pair of jeans, or you can give a hard edge to something that is ultra feminine.¬† And even though the corset is nothing new, dating back to the 1700’s, the ways in which we wear them and the consistent evolution in the way they are constructed are offering¬†a new take on¬†this type of garment.¬†

Alexander Wang Рhere is a great example of how pairing a corset on top of a Grecian styled garment that is feminine and flowing can add a touch of an edge.  If anything the black and white colours also help to accentuate this contrast.

Antonia Berardi – It always amazes me to see a heavily structured piece is showcased through sheer fabric.¬† This is ultra femininity at it’s best!

Christopher Kane

Francesco Scognamiglio Рanother great example of how structured a sheer fabric can be made to function, except this garment offers the edge and hardness as opposed to the Antonio Berardi example above.

Giles РSHAPE!  I love this new take on the corset.  Ultra hard and definitely different!

Herve Leger by Max Azria РFor those that have been following the blog, you know my love for this garment.  Here is an example of how you can achieve the looks of a corset without having to suffer through boning and being strapped in like a harness.  Max Azria simply added the contrasting colour into the construction of the dress itself to give the illusion that a corset is a part of the garment without actually having one built-in.

Clare Tough – Eva Bodice Top

Nasty Gal – Catalina Bustier Tank

Well, we have finally arrived at Black and White.¬† As you will see from the copious amounts of pictures in this category – it is one of my favorites.¬† For those who know me, my closet is filled with Black for the simple reason that you can pair it with almost any other colour…especially white!

BCBG¬†Max Azria¬†– Striped Contrast Dress – I’ve been seeing a lot¬†of this corsetted¬†top over t shirt styling.¬† I quite like it as you can wear this out on a Friday night or on a Saturday afternoon.¬†

Dior – Gathered Neck Dress

Emilio Pucci¬†– I love, love, love this dress!¬† It was a nice surprise too because I often find that Emilio Pucci’s flamboyant patterns and colours put me off.¬† Not on this one!

Emporio Armani – Damn, does that man know how to tailor.

Free People РBeyond Vintage Dress.  Horizontal stripes = very flattering.

Hermes – I could definitely do ‘prep’ if I owned this amazing Hermes outfit.

Herve Leger – Off White, Black Contrast, Bandage Dress.¬† I have been eyeing this dress for months now.¬† Me likey!¬† Classic Herve Leger style with a great twist on the corset.¬† I’ve been swooning over this dress so much that I actually had a dream that I helped Max Azria on the street and he offered me free dresses for life and this one was my first request.¬† Too much?

Jason Wu – Here is a perfect example of how colour can be paired with black and white!

JC Studio

Marchesa¬†– Does it again!¬† I’ll have to look, but I think every trend/post I’ve done has featured Marchesa.

Moschino Cheap & Chic

Alice + Olivia – Zip Lapel Leather Blazer and Maggie Sequin Dress.¬† While on the topic of Black & White, this outfit not only offers the colour contrast, but the textural contrast as well.¬† I love when all of those elements combine to make something as well put together as this.¬† Leather, flowing fabrics, black, white…what more can a girl ask for?

Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti¬†–¬†Silk-Chiffon Empire Line Dress – I remember one of my first moments in fashion being an Alberta Ferreti¬†advertisement where the models were wearing dresses similar to this one.¬† Not only did it fit the theme, but it tugged on my heart strings.
